That time of year again, ridiculously in advance of Jesus’s birthday, when Manchester officially gets prettied up by some minor celebrities. This year’s Z-listers with something to promote...I mean with a passion for the city...are X-Factor winner Leon Jackson, ex-Hollyoaks star and lads mag favourite Gemma Atkinson and Alesha Dixon, who used to be in a pop group called Mis-Teeq and more recently was on some TV programme about dancing, apparently.

The switch will be flicked tonight, Friday 7th November, between 6.30-7.30pm, in Albert Square. If you’re looking for a reason to go I’ll give you a pretty good one now. Miss Alesha Dixon:
