Christmas is coming!
Now the lights are on I guess it means Christmas is officially on its way. This time I write with good news, however, as I defy anyone not to get excited about this – the Christmas Market is coming on 18 November 2008!
Even the most cynical amongst us (ahem) can’t fail to look forward to this celebration of all things festive. And if you don’t like festive then fear not – they sell beer and sausages! That’s all you need to know.
Now an annual tradition, the German Christmas Market that descends on the city has grown into one of the biggest and best in the country, if not Europe. While some towns still languish on the border of pathetic with their attempts at injecting some spirit at this time of year, Manchester has truly embraced it and the city really buzzes in the wintry air.
This year it’s going to be bigger than ever, so big in fact that they’re taking over a whole five venues in the city. The main German Christmas Market is still going to be in St Ann’s square, which is the natural hub of it all, and a great place to go and soak up the atmosphere with a glass of beer or mulled wine. And a sausage. And a pretzel. And another beer. Then a crepe. And a waffle. I think they might sell some other stuff, for presents and the like, in between the food stalls and the beer tent. I'm not sure though.
