Saturday In The City
A rainy Saturday afternoon is one of the best excuses to sit in a bar listening to live music - if you feel the need to create excuses. Night and Day was one of the few places to offer some free 'fringe' events for this In The City thing that's come to town so I decamped for the afternoon to see what was going on. Not a lot is the answer, in truth - a few blokes with guitars singing songs about getting dumped, or some such nonsense, with a notable, quirky interlude from The Momeraths.
More noteworthy is the Manchester Food and Drink Festival that’s set itself up in Spinningfields, which is, admittedly, a bit of a (soggy) walk from the Northern Quarter. A walk that is rewarded, however, with what one would expect from any self respecting food and drink festival – free stuff, or, rather, free food, to be more precise. If cookery demonstrations aren’t your thing (although they are more watchable in the flesh than you might expect) then you can just kick back and nibble, or gorge if you prefer, on the variety of snacks and drinks on offer for ‘tasting’.
