Dpercussion 2007
Aside from the world renowned Notting Hill Carnival and Liverpool’s Mathew St Festival, the Criminal Justice Bill put pay to most of these vibrant assets of U.K. youth culture nearly a decade and a half ago.
Not so in Manchester, where the free party scene continues unabated (albeit under a well-advised veil of secrecy), and where all members of the city’s multi-faceted music, arts and club scenes eagerly look forward to contributing to the city’s integral, annual free festival - DPercussion.
This year the most exciting fixture in Manchester’s rich music calendar celebrates it’s 10th anniversary with a bang.
Following 10 massively successful previous instalments, DPercussion has grown to become one of the most pivotal youth culture events to occur in Manchester and a festival, which whilst being free, rivals any of its fee paying peers in terms of quality entertainment.
2007’s DPercussion will be the largest event yet staged, catering for over 70, 000 festival goers over it’s two day run. At least nine stages, staggered across DPercussion’s unique, urban setting (the beautifully redeveloped, canalside Castlefield basin) will play host to a wealth of local and nationally recognised talent, from live acts and DJs to visual artists and cabaret performers.
Programming for the two-day spectacular is underway, with several key artists already confirmed to appear. They include:-
Norman Jay - The King Of Carnival and the only DJ to ever be awarded an MBE for his services to the art. Norman Jay has happily agreed to appear this year, bringing his festival favourite Good Times sounds to DPercussion for the very first time.
Sunshine Underground – Superb new pop outfit who charged their way onto dancefloors in 2007 thanks to hit single ‘Commercial Breakdown’ and fantastic debut LP ‘Raise The Alarm’
The Whip – Fiery electro punk outfit currently melting minds across the land thanks to their lively stage presence and current single ‘Muzzle No 1’
Local nightlife legends Sankeys, Tramp and Chibuku Shake Shake currently head up the club contributors to this year’s event and DJ sets have already been confirmed from eclectic film soundtrack specialist David Holmes, revolutionary West London affiliate Domu, highly feted Bristol duo The Beat Monkeys, Liverpool’s electro-funk king Greg Wilson, Manchester’s own Andy Votel and Matty J from London’s Tirk Records.
Steve Smith, Creative Director for DPercussion says:
“Manchester is defined by its music – DPercussion distills everything that happens across the year into one glorious day of brilliant noise.”
Many more artists are yet to be confirmed for the weekend event, but being such a special anniversary for DPercussion, expectations are high that 2007 will be boast it’s most exciting and diverse programming to date.
Book your weekend off work now and make sure you view Manchester and it’s music scene from a wholly unique angle. The whole of the city’s youth look forward to this day over almost all others – come and find out why, at this unique event in the UK festival calendar.
